My daughter wants to go to camp with her friends. How do I know if there is space for them in the session that I am signing my daughter up for?

When you log in to your account and click on the camps that you are interested in, it will display how many spaces are remaining.

What is the deadline for signing up for camp?

As long as there is space available, you may sign up. We like to know by 3PM on Friday afternoon for the followingMonday; that way we will be sure to have everything ready for her!

I held my daughter back a year, she is six, she will be starting Kindergarten this Fall; can she attend Athena Camps?

Absolutely, she will enjoy the activities and the pace of our Mini Athena Camps.

My daughter is old/young for her grade. Which camp should I register her for?

At Athena Camps we design the curriculum based on grade level and group the campers by the grade level they will be entering in the fall. Athena Camp, Mini is our camp option (9am-12:30pm and/or 1-4:30pm) for girls entering Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades in the fall. Entering Kinder and 1st grade girls may sign up for a half day camp or full day. The full day runs 9:00am – 4:30pm and requires a 2 snacks and a lunch. The half day camp cost is $279 per week and full day is $539. We recommend 2nd graders who want a full day camp to enroll in the Junior camp. Athena Camp, Jr. is our traditional full day camp (9am-4pm) for girls entering 2nd through 5th grade in the fall. Second grade girls have the option of enrolling in the half day or full day camp. This decision must be made at the time of registration and cannot be changed at camp. Mini and Jr. are two separately run camps. Athena Camp is our newest camp for middle school girls entering 5th, 7th and 8th grade in the fall. This camp is a unique camp separate from the Mini and Jr. camps. It runs from 9am-4pm and located on the same campus as the Mini and Jr. camps.

What about allergies? My daughter has a serious allergy. Can she come to Athena Camps?

Absolutely, we would love to have her! Each session we have girls with various types and degrees of allergies. There is a place on the registration form to give us details about her allergy. For severe allergies we require that you fill out the “Allergy Form” in the Forms section of our registration system. We would also ask that you arrive 30 minutes early on the first day of camp so that you can meet with the Camp Director and go over special instructions and hand off any medications.

What are the hours of camp?

Full day camps start at 9 AM and run to 4 PM. We recommend you drop off your daughter around 8:50 AM, so that she has a few minutes to put her belongings away, and to chill with new friends and her coaches. We have many fun activities planned for her, and our Opening Circle starts promptly at 9 AM. We are generally finished around 3:45 PM. You may pick up your daughter up anywhere between 3:45 and 4:10 without incurring a late fee. Half day camps start at 9 AM to 12:30 PM and  1 PM to 4:30 PM.   You may sign up for both the AM and PM camps.  Be sure to send a lunch or purchase on through My Green Lunch.

Philosophy

My daughter plays club Volleyball, should I sign her up for your camp?

Yes, absolutely,  but we recommend you sign her up for different sports so she can be exposed to new experiences and add to her current skills.  Our hope is that girls leave Athena Camps equipped with the confidence to try new things throughout their life.

My daughter has never played sports before, is this ok?

Yes!  This is one of the reasons we created Athena Camps.   Our entire camp is geared to making sports fun for girls.  We meet the girls where they are and emphasize building skills and body confidence. We recommend you ask your daughter which sport she might be interested in trying, and then emphasize the awesome art projects and new friends she will make at camp.

How do I decide on which camp to choose? There are so many choices!

We recommend asking your daughter which sports she is most interested in and then picking the camp based on your summer schedule and which theme is most appealing.

Can my daughters be together?

The girls can be on the same team, if that is something that would make them more comfortable. Please let us know if you would like them to be together; otherwise, we will assume that you would prefer them to be in separate groups and teams.

How do you group the campers together?

At Athena Camps, we group the girls together by grade level. The groups are together for art and sports. All of the camp comes together for snacks, lunch, and free play. In the afternoon the girls are put on teams. The teams are made up of girls from all of the different grades. One change we are making this year, is that we will no longer put sisters together on the same team. Our format for Mother/Daughter Circle has changed and it is no longer necessary for the sisters to be together for the sake of Mother/Daughter Circle.

What do they do in Extended Care?

In the mornings, Extended Care is somewhat subdued. The girls express their creativity on the walls, read one of our books from our well stocked girl appropriate library, or interact with the coach in charge. In the afternoons, the girls in Extended Care are ready for more action. Once the other campers have been dismissed, the girls and a coach play games inside and out.

My daughter doesn’t have a friend available to come to camp with her. Will she be the odd girl out?

Many girls come to Athena Camps without the comfort of having a friend accompany them. Our camp is all about making new friends. Our coaches are aware of that fact that many girls come solo and encourage inclusiveness among all campers. One of the underlying purposes behind most of our activities is to foster communication and connections. Friendships generally happen quickly and spontaneously/naturally at Athena Camps.

Why is your camp called Athena Camps?

Athena is the Greek goddess of many things. She represents courage, strength, wisdom, the arts, and crafts. We chose Athena as a model of the qualities we help girls develop, promote, and recognize in themselves.

My daughter LOVES volleyball and plays it competitively; if I sign her up for your Tennis & Volleyball camp, will she get anything out of it?

She will spend an hour of her day at Athena Camps playing volleyball. She will also spend an hour playing tennis. The rest of her day will be filled with activities designed to help her bond with the other campers, opportunities to explore the qualities that may her unique, activities to foster healthy communication, and lots of time for all-around pure girl fun. Being that she is already highly skilled in volleyball, she may enjoy the opportunity to be a leader and let her volleyball talents shine.

My daughter does not consider herself an athlete; is Athena Camps right for her?

Athena Camps is designed for all girls regardless of their athletic abilities or experiences. Our coaches teach to all levels in their groups. Athena Camps sports philosophy is to build confidence through successful experiences in sports through non-competitive skill building and games. Many campers walk out of Athena Camps with a love for a new sport and go on to join a team or take further lessons.

How many girls are in a camp?

One of the many unique features of Athena Camps is our small camp size.  We highly value the relationships the girls make between each other and with the coaches so we keep our camps small. Mini Camp size will be a maximum of 32 girls. The Junior Camp is a maximum of 32 girls. The Middle School Camp is a maximum of 24 girls.

How is the Middle School Camp different from the Junior Camp?

Athena Camps, for Middle School girls is designed for girls in, or entering 5th through 8th grade.   The camp size is smaller for more intimate and mature discussions about issues girls face, such as body image, cliques, peer pressure and stress.  The environment and curriculum is designed specifically for their age and developmental level. The sports are taught by collegiate athletes and coaches and the afternoon Team Time is designed to teach healthy competition among girls – how to complete and then leave it on the field.  Team Time for the Yoga & Running Camp will be an opportunity to create an iMovie about what it’s like to be a girl today. The art projects and discussions are more mature in nature than Athena, Jr. and will cover topics such as body image, friendship challenges, trust building and much more.
